August 2010
August is National Immunization Month.
Vaccines has saved millions of lives and continue to be
strongly recommended. Recommended adult vaccinations
include the those for tetanus, pneumonia, shingles,
flu, and now a pertussis booster
(whooping coughvaccine). There are many concerns as well
as misconceptions about vaccines in the community
today. Please come in to discuss any concerns with your
doctor. You may also want to do some of your own
research at the CDC Vaccines and Immunizations website (www.cdc.gov/vaccines).
August is also National Cataract
Awareness Month. More than half of Americans develop
cataracts by age 80. Risk
factors for
cataracts include aging, UV radiation exposure from the
sun, smoking, and diabetes. Make an appointment with
your doctor if you need to get checked for diabetes or
if you need some help to stop smoking.
